At least eleven civilians, mostly women and children, were killed in Afghanistan’s Badghis province when a roadside bomb hit the vehicle there were traveling in. No group, including the Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident happened on Saturday evening in Abkamari district of the province, Husamuddin Shams, the governor of the province confirmed. Among the dead included three children.

As fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan government intensified, civilian casualty is rising in Afghanistan. Incidents of civilian casualty during the Afghan Air Force raids are also increasing.

Earlier on Friday, Mina Khairi, a popular female anchor in Afghanistan’s Ariana News, was killed along with her mother when a roadside bomb hit a minivan she was traveling in. Two days later, her sister, who was also with them at the time of the incident, succumbed to her injuries.

Condemning the incident, the High Council For National Reconciliation (HCNR), the body responsible for negotiating peace with Taliban, said, “At a time when all the people of Afghanistan are hoping for peace and waiting for the peace talks to end and for the war and killing in the country to end, the creation of such a crime and terror is against the national and popular spirit.”
