Pakistan’s cement sector has been struggling to maintain growth for the past two years and has reported a loss of Rs13 billion in the financial year 2019-20.

The loss during the final quarter contracted 20 percent compared to the third quarter of the same year.

The depressing bottom line in the financial year 2020 was mostly due to a decline in retention prices of cement coupled with a slowdown in economic activity in the final quarter due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cement exports to India remained zero in FY20 after the imposition of 200 percent duty by New Delhi after the Pulwama attack.
