Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has given approval to a proposal to ban cattle slaughter in the country.

The proposal states that as a country with an economy based on agriculture, the contribution of cattle to the development of the livelihood of the rural people in Sri Lanka is immense.

It points out that due to the increase in cattle slaughter, the cattle resources required for traditional farming activities are not sufficient and there are not enough cattle resources to uplift the local dairy industry.
