Upon request from Sri Lanka, China has assured that the Indian Ocean island nation would be among first destinations for Chinese tourists when travels resume after COVID-19 pandemic.

During the recent high-level visit of a Chinese delegation to the island, the head of the delegation, Yang Jiechi, member of Politburo of the Communist Party of China discussed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on tourism cooperation between China and Sri Lanka.

Upon the sincere request from Sri Lankan side to encourage more Chinese tourists to come after COVID-19, the Chinese senior official has assured both President and Prime Minister of the island nation that Chinese leaders and government attach high importance to the tourism cooperation between the two countries.
