Khaf-Herat railway line, a proposed 130 km long rail network between Iran and Afghanistan with 70 km in Iran and 60 km in Afghanistan, completed its 93% of work on the Iranian side, informed the Iranian deputy minister of transport and urban development, Abbas Khatiti.

The remaining work on the Iranian side will be completed in the next two months. On the other hand, the Afghan railway official said that the 4th phase of work in Herat will start within ten days.

The rail link, the work on which started in 2007, will boost the export and import between Iran and Afghanistan, said officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Trade. Afghanistan, a landlocked country, will get easy access to the Iranian ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas through this rail link.
