Noted British historian and writer Katherine Schofield has long been enraptured by Hindustani classical music. So much so that she gave up her early training in the viola for Hindustani classical, more specifically in the Khayal form.  That passion has resulted in her latest book “Music and Musicians in Late Mughal India: Histories of the Ephemeral, 1748-1858”.

Dr. Schofield spoke to Mayank Chhaya Reports from Cambridge to tell many charming stories, including one about an anonymous Indian musician playing the raga Dhrupad on the harpsichord in 1788.
