Sri Lanka-India naval exercises next week

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan and Indian naval forces are to begin joint naval exercises next week, Xinhua reported Saturday (Dec 11).

Sri Lankan Naval Chief Rear Admiral Daya Sandagiri said the exercises will begin next week, Xinhua quoted Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation as saying.

The two naval forces have been co-operating for some time to prevent the Tamil Tiger rebels from smuggling in weapons through the Palk Straits, the narrow sea strip between the two South Asian neighbours.
