    Bhutan's queen, princess in India

New Delhi, Feb 6: Barely two weeks after Bhutan King Jigme Singye Wangchuk's visit to India, one of his queens and his daughter arrived here Sunday to learn more about the country.

Bhutan's Queen Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuk, a goodwill ambassador of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is on a 12-day visit to learn more about the population control policies and health programmes.

Princess Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck is accompanying her mother during the visit.

The queen is trying to get a clearer picture about UNFPA's support to family planning, safe motherhood, HIV/AIDS and its work among adolescents and women's empowerment groups in India, said Kuensel, the
    country's only English newspaper.

The queen will also study India's efforts to tackle challenges in the field of reproductive health, population and development.

Both the queen and princess are scheduled to visit Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The queen is expected to meet Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar and senior government officials during her stay here.

King Wangchuk, who was on a state visit to India last month, was the chief guest at this year's Republic Day celebrations.

Bhutan's Crown prince, Dasho Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wanghuk, had recently joined a 12-month course at Delhi's National Defence College.
