    Joint proposal from Sri Lanka and Bhutan to seek WHO support

    COLOMBO: A joint proposal will be submitted to the South Asian Regional Health Conference October by the Sri Lankan and Bhutanese Health Ministries to seek support from the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve the countries' respective health services.

    The Health Ministry on Sept 7 said, “This agreement was reached at a recent meeting between Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and his Bhutanese counterpart Lyonpo Jigmi Singay.

    “The Bhutanese Health Minister had appreciated Sri Lanka's support in training its human resources and had requested Bhutanese medical students to undergo internship training in Sri Lankan hospitals.”

    The South Asian Regional Health Conference will take place on October 6, in Male, the Maldives.
