    Bhutan to attend health ministers meeting

    THIMPU: Health ministers from the 11 countries of the South East Asian Region are scheduled to meet in Male, Maldives for the 22nd annual health ministers meeting from September 5 to 6.

    The ministers representing the 11 countries, which are members of the World Health Organisation, will largely emphasize on the global fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

    They will also discuss on the progress made towards achieving the UN Millennium Goals and inter-country cooperation like cross border control of communicable diseases.

    After the conclusion of the health ministers meeting, the WHO Regional Committee Meeting will be held from September 7 to 9.

    The 11 countries meeting in Madives are Bangladesh, Bhutan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

    A three-member delegation led by the health minister, Lyonpo Jigme Singay will be representing Bhutan.
