Three-day mourning in Bangladesh for Arafat

DHAKA: Bangladesh announced a three-day national mourning from Thursday (Nov 11) as a mark of respect to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

The Bangladesh national flag will fly at half-mast on all government offices, autonomous institutions and private offices and Bangladesh missions abroad.

Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed will fly to Cairo Thursday night to attend the funeral ceremony of Yaseer Arafat. He will leave Dhaka for the Egyptian capital by a Biman flight.

Ahmed, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, former prime minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina and former president H.M. Ershad have expressed deep shock at the demise of Arafat.
