Rise in Kashmir infiltration cause of concern: Antony

New Delhi, Aug 8: Defence Minister A.K. Antony Saturday said a rise in infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few days was a "matter of concern".

"Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has come down substantially but in the last one month, suddenly a tendency of increase in infiltration is there... normally in Jammu and Kashmir, on the onset of winter, there is some rise (in infiltration), which is a matter of concern," Antony said on the sidelines of a function here.

"We can't have complacency in Jammu and Kashmir. Eternal vigilance is needed and we can't take any decision regarding the state in a hasty manner," he said.

Three separatist guerrillas were killed in a gunfight in a thickly forested area of north Kashmir Friday. The army has been involved in massive combing operations along the LoC in Kupwara district in Kashmir in the last week during which six guerrillas were gunned down and three infiltration bids foiled. The LoC divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
