PPP will lobby for UN probe into Bhutto killing

Islamabad, January 8: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has said that it would not give up its demand for a UN probe into the assassination of its former leader Benazir Bhutto, and that the party would continue to agitate at all available forums.

In a statement Tuesday, party spokesman and former senator Farhatullah Babar said if the present regime did not approach the UN, the future PPP government would formally urge the UN for probing Bhutto's assassination.

Earlier, the UN had probed the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.

He said the PPP had no faith in the investigations ordered by the government."The Scotland Yard team had only been asked to probe the cause of death and not the perpetrators, financiers, executioners or organisers of the conspiracy," he said.

Babar said the party would soon write to foreign governments and also send delegations abroad to seek international assistance in pushing for UN probe.
