Kathmandu, March 25: Nepal's government has invited UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during the April 10 polls to the constituent assembly of the Himalayan country, media reported Tuesday.

Leading website nepalnews.com quoted Nepal's permanent representative to the UN Madhu Raman Acharya as saying that he had handed over the invitation letter to Ban recently.

Acharya said the top UN official was positive about visiting Nepal but no date has been fixed for his tour. It is not sure whether he will visit as an observer during the polls.

Possibilities are that Ban might also visit to inaugurate the regional office of disarmament in Kathmandu or during the function to be organized on the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of the Nepal's military contribution to UN peacekeeping mission.

According to the website, former US president Jimmy Carter is scheduled to visit Nepal as an election observer.
