Al Qaeda suspect arrested in Bhutto assassination attempt

Islamabad, February 26: Pakistani security forces have arrested an Al Qaeda linked suspect in connection with the assassination attempt on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Karachi last October, Geo TV reported Tuesday.

Named Qari Saifullah Akhtar, the suspect was arrested in Lahore on Monday, the report said.

Around 150 people were killed and hundreds wounded in a suicide bombing attack on a procession to welcome Bhutto's return on Oct 19, 2007. Bhutto, however, had escaped the attack unhurt.

Bhutto was later killed in a gun and suicide bomb attack Dec 27 at an election rally in Rawalpindi.
