Maoists blow up government building in Jharkhand

Ranchi, April 29: Maoist guerrillas Tuesday blew up a building of the Jharkhand tourism department under construction in the religious tourist hub of Giridih district, the police said.

According to the police, around 20 activists of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrounded the building situated near Madhuban block of Giridh district, around 270 km from Ranchi.

The rebels asked the people sleeping inside the building to vacate and later blew it up it by using explosives, said the police. Before leaving the spot, the guerrillas left pamphlets near the spot claiming responsibility for the incident.

In February last year, the rebels had blown up the same structure. Madhuban is a religious place thousands of Jains visit every year. The Jharkhand tourism department has been building the facility for tourists at a cost of Rs.10 million.
