Nepal-India joint effort can resolve Terai insecurity, says PM Koirala
By Lilaballav Ghimire
BIRATNAGAR -- Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Friday said that the mounting violence, killings and robberies in Terai could be resolved 'in a minute' if Nepal and India work together.
While replying to queries by various groups as part of the "BBC Sajha Sawal" programme at his hometown residence in Biratnagar this morning, PM Koirala said, "Due to the open-border between the two countries, insecurity in the area has increased."
Accusing the Maoist's youth wing Young Communist League (YCL) as assisting Indian criminal groups who are engaged in killings, robberies among other crimes, PM Koirala said, "This can be resolved in a minute. Talks with India are underway."
Stating that the Indian authorities were also supportive about the issue of 'border control', he added that the result of the talks would come out soon.
Speaking on the issue of monarchy, he said that the king can be removed permanently only through peaceful mans as the political parties failed to overthrow him during Janandolan II.
"If the elections had been held on November 22, the issues of republic and proportional would not have remained entangled," he said, "Republic doesn't come from bickering out aloud. Congress is silent at the moment."
The country would see a true republic the day it (Congress) breaks its silence, he added.
When asked about the Constituent Assembly elections, he said that holding the elections was his last wish.
"I'll rest only after it's done," he added.
According to party sources, PM Koirala came to his hometown yesterday to 'rest'. He returned to the capital this morning after addressing a meeting of the party cadres at his residence.
