What Do they Say about Afghanistan?
Western countries are committed to achieve their political and military goal in Afghanistan. NATO and other involved organizations in Afghanistan still believe that subjugation to Taliban will follow detrimental affect on their credibility and Afghanistan's future.
But most western governments with presence in Afghanistan are under tremendous pressure from the majority of their population to bring their soldiers home. The governments are trying to balance their domestic demands for withdrawal of their troops and commitment to NATO for military deployment and assistance. Afghanistan is an important story in western media and governments are grappling to cope with the issue in the best possible manner.
There is a serious and almost common criticism that the last six years have been wasted without achieving any significant disarmament or tackling the issue of illicit poppy cultivation and drug trafficking, which mostly affects European countries.
The political instability and raising suicide dangers in Afghanistan has prompted the international community to consider the implications it would have for the region and for western interests. However, there is still quest for the ascendance of democratic forces in Afghanistan is tempered by the realisation that the West would still be required to do business with geographically important and Taliban-infected Afghanistan.
The presence of their troops in distant and dangerous Afghanistan is impacting politics in a significant way in a host of countries. Death of soldiers in Afghanistan is making Western governments unpopular.
Such is the impact of the Afghan conflict in some of these countries, the continued conflict and violence in Afghanistan drives public opinion against the governments' decision to endorse military presence as they may suggest that Afghanistan was not a mission deserving long-term dedication and assistance.
It is natural, if Afghan government and poltical forces can not maximize their advantage of the current national and international resources, the opinion in west may reverse, the option for the west may be few, and they will completely abandon Afghanistan to people and Al-Qaida organizations that have already warned to occupy the country for establishing their extremist governance sample.
They may also consider the option to reduce assistance and fund in vast manner. In both cases, the weak Afghan government may not survive.
